efore you Adopt..It is not uncommon to see a kitten or puppy so cute that you just have to take it home! Many people adopt animals before giving it enough thought and those animals can often end up repeating their stays in animal shelters or even being put to sleep. Adopting a dog or cat is a huge responsibility and is a step that should be seriously thought out before you decide take action.
If you cannot properly care for an animal that will need care, attention and love then do not adopt! It is not fair to bring home an animal only to rip it away from what it thought was its “Forever Home.”
Unfortunately a large statistic of animals that are put to sleep by shelters every year are those who were given up by their families.
It is important to remember that dogs can live up to 15 years and cats can live up to 18! You are going to have to feed, water, groom and clean up after an animal. If you are a frequent mover, or if you are not home often enough to not only feed and water your animal but give it the care and attention that it would need, then maybe adopting a pet is not right for you.
Things to consider:
- Why do you want a pet?
- Do you have time for a pet?
- Can you afford a pet?
- Are you prepared to deal with “problems” a pet may cause? ( Fleas, scratched-up furniture, accidents from animals who aren’t housetrained, medial emergencies)
- Are you living arrangements suitable?
- Are you willing to care for the animal for the rest of its life?
If you have weighed the pros and cons and have found that you would be the purrrfect pet owner, then congratulations! The love and fun that you will get from a companion animal will far outweight the cons!

Non-Owned RESCUES
Go into our Adoption Program
A non-owned rescue is when a dog finds it’s way to Suzie’s Friends and remains there for a period of three (3) days during which time no one claims the animal. After this 3-day period Suzie’s Friends will become the permanent caretaker and will place the animal up for adoption in accordance with our adoption policy.
If someone comes to claim the animal after the 3-day waiting period they will be required to make application to adopt the animal. When this happens Suzie’s Friends reserves the right to accept or deny any application.
Avoid Pet Loss – Micro Chip!
Note: Felines are excluded from the 3-day waiting period and will become a permanent guest of Suzie’s Friends immediately upon arrival.
MICRO CHIPPING
